Trainers

Our training efforts focus on the language that exists between horses, we work with our horses in teaching them, not forcing.

Riding Philosophy

At Excella, we believe in teaching through connection, not control. Owned and led by Lisa Levasseur and young assistant trainer Katie Attwood, our program emphasizes clear communication, respectful handling, and customized growth for both horse and rider.

Lisa Levasseur

Founder, Professional Saddleseat & Western Trainer

Lisa Levasseur spent eight years working as an assistant trainer to Bob Battaglia & Randy Shockley at Baywood Park Ltd. in California. During that time, Excella Arabians owned, trained, and competed in Halter, Park, English Pleasure, Western Pleasure, Stock, Driving, and combination events, achieving two National Champions, one Reserve National Champion, five Top Ten National Champions, and Multi Regional and Class A Championships in both the US and Canada. Then, she came home to Canada and established Excella Arabians as a full-service training centre in 1985. However, she soon endured major back injuries and struggled through fifteen back surgeries to remain in the saddle on and off for years. After a major back fusion, Lisa began riding again in 2021 and is now working with talented young assistant trainer Katie Attwood to re-establish a training program and offer lessons to a few eligible students.
